MARTHA AVENUE-Day 38. Several lovely things, and one crappy thing.
Lovely: seeing Dick and Nancy at the beach on my walk this morning. The sun peeking through the rain clouds, the sand in my toes. Having just enough plums left to finish the orders for tomorrow. An incredibly sweet note from the Potters. Listening to the smart, thoughtful women on my group call- Barb, Jennifer, Meredith, Annette, Kris, Dimple and Angie. Having a good conversation with my Thema/Lousie, Kim.
Crappy: Getting the official word that FOLLIES at SF Playhouse is postponed.
This one really hurt. Of course, it doesn't come as a surprise, given that we were slated to start rehearsal on June 1st...and you gotta figure if Broadway is shut down until September, we probably are too. But I am very sad about it. Had a little weep and ate too much cookie dough to try to feel better. Which of course, never works. I had been very much looking forward to working with all the amazing folks who were on that show and getting to work with Bill and Dave. And I was looking forward to a good long contract to set up my health care for the year. I was also so looking forward to doing something that my dear friends Giles and Ken Ruta were so excited about. Giles was scheduling his US visit this summer around the timing of the show, so that he could see me do both Carlotta and Sally at different times in the run. Ken has been telling me that he would be my opening night date for months. So a cry seems totally justified.
But today was also a prep day so I shook myself and got to work. I was glad that I got a walk at the beach this morning to blow the cobwebs off, because I had a bunch of baking to do. Prepping apples for the crumble, baking up the last of the plum tartes ( we will do strawberry-ginger tartes until the plums are back in season in a month or two) and baking a special treat for my dear Potters. Made a batch of Panna Cotta and prepped the sourdoughs for tomorrow.
An early night for me tonight to combat the previous insomnia night. Tomorrow I get to deliver to a few new folks out in the East Bay.
Menu is attached here for Friday or into next week. All your favorites plus the new Moroccan Chicken Tagine. Plum tarte will go away for a month to be replaced by a strawberry-ginger tarte. Also delicious with greek yogurt for breakfast!
Send up a little prayer to the theatre gods that we will be back in that beautiful limelight someday soon...it can't come soon enough for me. Just to sit backstage and watch my colleagues working, or to sit in a rehearsal hall watching the stage managers at their work, or to stand up with one of my people, speak words and feel things other than worry.
Take good care of yourselves and each other. Be kinder than necessary. Hug yourself for me. xoxo
