They always say that things are always improved by salt water… either tears or by bathing in the sea. I have been doing a lot of the former, but today I finally got to get a little of the latter.
Got a little more sleep than I have been lately last night and it helped immensely. Went to the dump with my downstairs neighbor, Chris, at 7:45… what an interesting, eye-opening, kind-of-awful place that is. And how frustrating it is that there is really no other way to deal with our refuse right now. We do a pretty good job of composting/recycling here at 76 Martha, but there are still some things that HAVE to be disposed of. Today, we dealt with a pile that had been growing… old electronics (luckily they have a special place for those) used paint cans, things left by old roommates that were unable to be given away… My favorite part was the strange little still-lifes that were set up at the entrances and exits. Little remnants of decor that were rescued from someone’s junk and resurrected to welcome the dumpers. My favorite was this little chef who was missing a hand, but was wisely masked up and ready to direct us to “wait here”. You can’t see it in the photo, but behind him was a little Russian Church saint… one of those elaborately dressed cherub-looking statues with a crown. You wonder who’s grandma’s old front yard it was taken from.
After the dump adventure, I came home to get orders set up for the North Bay deliveries, knocked out a few more masks and headed north. Stopped off in Novato and then out to three different deliveries in West Marin. So very good to see folks. I miss that community. Up to my mom’s for a quick visit and then, finally, to the beach.
Met Kristen there for a some long-awaited, and sorely needed, conversation. We sat in beach chairs, masked and enough distant for safety, but able to have a good heartfelt chat. Then we stripped off and got in the water, even though the fog was rapidly approaching the slight warmth from the day disappearing. Still felt good to soak in the water. Salt water tears and salt water bathing. Just what a body (and soul) needed.
I have missed my 10pm bedtime goal, but I think I can make the 11pm. Menu below for our regular deliveries… Wednesday orders should be placed by tomorrow morning. www.marthaavenuefood.com
Friday Meals on Heels at Oasis orders can be placed at www.toasttab/oasis/v3 through Wednesday.
I hope that you are able to find what your soul needs today too. I hope the tears are outweighed by bathing, and that you are able to give yourself some compassion and nurturing. Send your friends and loved ones some love and compassion too. We are all going through so much right now. Hug yourself for me xoxo
