It was a pretty quiet day here at Martha Avenue. I ended up sleeping a little late because I had had one of those irritating insomnia nights… awake from around 3am to 6am, and then fell back into sleep and weird dreams. It felt good that I didn’t have to get up at any particular time, but it did mean that the day sped away from me.
We did a little testing of recipes… mostly setting up a Middle Eastern-Flavored Menu… of Pomegranate Roast Chicken and a Rice Pilau, a Meze Platter, Fatouch Salad and a couple of Middle Eastern influenced desserts: a flourless olive oil, dark chocolate cake and an Orange-Pistachio Honey Cake. I also made a peach pie with some leftover peaches from the Oasis Cobblers.
It was a nice day, a calm day. A day of being kind to each other and trying to get things done but not stress about it. We needed a day like this. Willi still managed to get a bunch of stuff done (Tagine, Porcini Ragu etc) but it didn’t feel hurried. Spent a little time down in the garden marveling at our corn and the giant squash vine (maybe a pumpkin?) I even managed to get a nice long bath, complete with candles, a book and the company of the family of raccoons who nightly raid our compost bin. There is a mama raccoon and 5 little ones. They come almost every night and line up in the big tree, like a chorus line of little glowing eyes. And they make the funniest little churring noises. They crack me up.
Tomorrow is North Bay delivery day and a quick dip at the beach when I am done with my rounds. We have several new West Marin customers, many of whom are folks I have known for 30+ years. Feels good to have folks enjoying our food!
I hope your Sunday felt restful or productive, depending on what you needed. I hope you fall into a comfy bed and a deep restorative sleep, and I hope that for myself as well! Take good care of your body and your heart. Hug yourselves for me. Xoxo
