MARTHA AVENUE- Day 122

Today is Willi’s Birthday! Of course it was also a work day, but we tried to find ways to celebrate regardless. I made him a nice big gooey cinnamon roll for breakfast and then he gave me another pasta tutorial to prep me for the week alone. He’s headed to Seattle for a week to visit his new nephew. He’s worked hard the last few days to get stuff prepped so I can carry on alone and today we ended up buying a used fridge off Craig’s list to increase our storage for perishables. An odd birthday present for sure, but a very helpful one!
East Bay deliveries for me today included a quick (but much appreciated) catch up with Colin and Karen… and they let me raid their lemon tree again, which means more lemon curd! A quick stop and check-in with Myra, and a speedy but very satisfying visit with Becky and the little girls. At one point Becky reminded Eleanor that they had cookies to share with me. Eleanore exclaimed,”Oh! I have something for you. It blew my mind!” SHE blows MY mind. Such a funny little kid. And Marian is all smiles and waves and charm. Such a breath of fresh air they give me in the middle of the week.
Home to pick up the fridge and strap parts of it on my car, while my kids secretly picked up the dinner that I ordered from Zero Zero. We were a party of 6… my kids, Jamye and Chris, Willi and I. Not a huge blow out party, but it felt like we celebrated a little bit anyway. We sat outside on the deck, bundled up against the summer fog, drinking pink sparkling wine, eating fancy pizza and a perfectly warm cheese-cake that Jamye made. Willi deserves a week on a boat in the tropics, or camping in the mountains, or an epic road trip…. But for now, it’s a little outdoor dinner party with our little pod and a trip to see his nephew. Maybe next year we can do something a little more exciting… who knows.

Signing off now to go make a batch of Cinnamon Roll dough to send up to Willi’s family with him. It feels good to know that we are sending a bunch of food to the new parents, and Willi will fill their freezer while he is there. Nice for him to be able to go meet the little one and connect with his family. I fortunately am close enough to see my mom regularly but my dad is across the country now. I know how much Willi misses Seattle and his family, so I am glad that he is getting this trip. And I will hold down the fort while he is gone. Orders will go out as usual!
Sending out all sorts of good wishes to everyone. Hug yourselves for me! Xoxo
