MARTHA AVENUE- Day 88
Stayed up late baking a cake and listening in to the Walnut Creek City Council meeting. It was heartening to hear all the folks chiming in about how important the job of AD is to keeping a theatre company going.
Woke early to frost and fill the cake. This one was for a cute little 4 year old girl, who's grandmother lives in my neighborhood. Lemon-Buttermilk cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream and a ton of fresh strawberries. When they came by to pick up the cake, little Mona told me all about how they had built a strawberry piñata out of a balloon and paper mâché. She was so darn cute. I wish I had asked her to take a photo with the cake!
Not too busy a day today... one drop off in the city to Roberta
and Bob, and then on to Oakland where I delivered to Daren and to Myra. We had a nice talk standing on her steps... talked about process and home-construction and missing work and appreciating the strange gifts of this weird time-out time and how last year when we were doing ONCE seems YEARS away.
Had a good long visit with Becky and the little ones. I think we finally bored Eleanor with our talk. I love that touchstone in the middle of the week seeing them. Helps me stay grounded. So thankful to her and Judy and Jerry and Annie for their support and love.
Home to clean the horrible kitchen, but Willi read to me out of the book we are working on, while I cleaned the stove and scrubbed the floor. He adds all sorts of dirty embellishments which make me laugh and makes the work go a lot easier.
I am tired today and am going to take a hot shower and get into bed early. I am grateful for the work we are doing, I am grateful for a day tomorrow to prep and test and photograph the offerings for the Meals on Heels event. I miss my dad. I worry that it will be months and months before it will be possible to visit him in the assisted living place in Raleigh where he lives. I miss my brother John, and again, because he's in Raleigh and we need to do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe, I don't know when I will see him and his girls. I have to remember the good stuff, try to have faith that things will shift, be patient... be kind to my body, be kind to my heart. I hope that you all find space in your evening to do the same.
Menu below is for Friday July 3rd (SF and South Bay delivery)
Orders should be placed by tomorrow morning. If anyone is hoping for a 4th of July cake or pie, let me know! Happy to get out the cherry pitter and go to town!
Sleep well. Stay safe. Wear your masks...just do. Hug yourself for me.xoxo
