MARTHA AVENUE-Day 23- Good day today despite the news that the SIP is extended through May. Not that I was surprised, but I am feeling very doubtful that my summer theatre gig is going to happen. Feeling worried about what all that means as far as health care and income and all that... and about how we will ever get back to feeling cavalier about being in a theatre. Although I long for that. I miss those dark, cool houses.
In the meantime, I am concentrating on being grateful for this food adventure. Today was a really good day. Jumped out of bed with energy and no bad dreams clinging to me, baked 6 loaves of bread, a batch of killer Mexican spiced brownies for a lunch order client, a quartet of plum tarts and a round of apple crumble for today's orders. Willi made gnocchi and pappardelle and was kind about letting me play musicals all day. It's maybe silly, and given the current unknown about when we will get to play at musicals again, maybe it's a little masochistic, but somehow singing musicals all day while cooking just makes the day go better. I left to do the SF and North Bay deliveries with a lightness that has evaded me for a while.
Had a little different route this week, and got to drive on the N. Novato Blvd road all the way out to the Pt Reyes-Petaluma road, after dropping a delivery out to Kevin and Leslie. It was so nice to see them and have a good chat, safely distanced of course. And then, the gorgeous rural end of Novato and into West Marin. There really is nothing so beautiful as West Marin in the springtime. Cows with their calves, green grass waving in the wind, birds everywhere, sunshine, curvy fun-to-drive roads... just really lovely. And made me feel really, really lucky to have an excuse to get out there.
Got to see Marshall and Jennifer and then up to my mom's on top of Inverness ridge to drop off her weekly order. Got to have a distanced front-porch chat with her and my brother Dan and his wife, Sharleen, and my two nieces who are quarantined with her. It's helping all of us to be able to have these check-ins... helps me to be reassured that she is listening to the seriousness of needing not to hug people as difficult as that is for her.
Anyway... a long day.. the kitchen is a wreck but will have to wait until morning because this girl is TIRED!
Below is the updated menu for this week. Orders for SF/EAST BAY delivery or SF pick up on Wednesday the 29th, should be placed by tomorrow morning. If you want to place orders ahead of time for Friday or next week, feel free to do so. Friday orders need to be in by Thursday morning.
For now... take care. Be kind to yourselves. Hug your people. xoxo
